Did You Say Vacation?

in

I am so excited this plane I'm on has TVs in the backs of the seats. Really, greatest invention ever. I'm headed to Chicago and then off to Boston for a couple acoustic gigs. I just got home from taking a few days off in Canada and man I feel re-freshshed!. Boy howdy...days off are kind of the best. Ever look around for something to work on and realize there's just nothing to do really? That its time to "don't do" for a second? Yea..that was me. Sometimes I have to force a vacation on myself. You know? But here's a list of things I found I loved about not working, worrying, or doing in Canada:

1) Taking vaca pics
2) Eating always
3) Wearing the same shirt lots
4) Feeling like shorts are always ok (even when they're not)
5) Airplanes with TVs in coach
6) Turning your phone's alarm off
7) Turning your phone's ringer off
8) Reading a paper back in bed after waking up.
9) Unhealthy breakfasts
10) Night swimming
11) Kayaking (oh lord, how do you spell that word???)

A Beginners Guide to My Road Routine

in

Being on the road is my absolute favorite thing in the world to do. The shows, the travel, the community...it doesn't get any better. For those of you who have never done anything like this before, here is a handy look at the life I love!

A Beginners Guide to My Road Routine:

Morning?: Your morning, and therefore your day, starts about an hour before your alarm clock goes off. This is when you start to half-sleep, half worry about whether the front desk is going to remember your wake up call and whether your back up alarm on your phone was properly set to "am" instead of "pm" time. However, no matter how prepared you think you are for that alarm to sound, the phone rings it's awful horror movie ring and you're begging for more sleep. You realize, though, that you've set you're alarm for the last possible second so there is no snooze button.

You're F'n Kidding Me

in

"You're F'n Kidding Me!" moments from the road!:

1) The front row...hands in the air...wanting things, singing things, sweating things, face to face with me as I sing at them! You're f'n kidding me!

2) Nick from The Spill Canvas announces that I'm gonna come up and sing with them and I take the stage, people cheering, and I sing "Our Song" my fav Spill song! You're f'n kidding me!

3) I find King of the Hill on the tele at the hotel as I fall asleep after a great show. You f'n kidding me!

4) Time and opportunity to have a sit down breakfast perhaps at Ria's Bluebird in Atlanta? You're f'n kidding me!

5) The whole crowd singing "I Believe In You" for the music video we're filming on the road! You. Are. F. N. Kidding. Me!

Tyler

P.S. I set up a phone # for y'all to call me on. Leave a message if I don't pick up. I'll try n call you back when I'm on the road tomorrow!

New Music to Share from the Road

in

Week 3 of The Spill Canvas tour? I think it's week 3. I'm dedicating this BLOG to all the new music I'm getting turned onto this tour and for those Trackers out there needing to know a little more about the other bands I'm traveling with. First! New Politics are a Danish band who just moved to Brooklyn not even a year ago. David and Søren were writing songs for other people forever until finally they decided to start a band and I think got signed right away to RCA? I think that's their label. Anyway, I figured these dudes had some experience writing because although their show comes off like some punk kids who don't give a shit (they actually probably don't). Their songwriting is so full of hooks I can't imagine them working at a office and using this band as just a release, you know? Every song in their set is well crafted and super catchy, but the only one for sale is called "Yeah Yeah Yeah." It'll be stuck in your head soon enough. They have a record out in June I think.

On the Road Again

in

4 shows or so into the tour and its starting to settle into place out here. The clutter in the van is starting to make sense, my body is getting used to working mornings and nights and relaxing for driving during the day, and band pee stops are starting to sync up and coordinate with each other...perfect. We're on the road. These west coast drives are killers, though! It's like while planning the west they made a rule that every major city had to be 10 hours away from any other big city. BS! Last night we played Portland and I can feel the band and I getting tighter and tighter. I'm also loosening up out here. I was so excited to get on the road for so long the first few shows didn't even seem real! Am I really finally out again?! Now I'm having a good time and feeling my stage legs coming back.

What a Week So Far

My EP "Ladies and Gentlemen" is out and for sale on iTunes! Waaaaaahoooooooo!!!! With it's release I'm here, there and everywhere saying hey, playing songs, signing things, and having an all around good time. The first week of promo is already done. Hung at a radio station in NY and met with some folks who might wanna use some of my tunes for a commercial or two. Also did some on air interviews for some NY TV networks and played the EP release show at the Canal Room where we SOLD OUT of EP's! Damn! You are a hungry bunch of Storm Trackers.

After New York I zig zagged around Wisconsin and Illinois visiting radio stations and pumping up everything going on. A lot of the DJ I knew from the last record so there was a lot of "here we go again!"

Now? Heading to Iowa for the first night with Spill Canvas on what's gonna be a really rowdy way to start this touring year!

Early Morning at Fox

in

I'm in the green room of Fox Morning News here in NYC getting ready to play Sunset Blvd on air. My eyes are a little bleary. It's like 5am LA time. They have the TV on soooo loud and this American Idol "expert" is analyzing why glasses guy or pretty girl or big dude or cute boy or young girl have or haven't been voted off the island and what that means. What that means??? Thank god there's an assortment of muffins. And coffee. Geez...listen to me. I guess I can be a little crotchety in the morning. I gotta get used to these early days I guess. I'll get better... its only the first few days of promo for "Ladies and Gentlemen". It's up for pre-order on iTunes and will be released digitally internationally April 20th. Hear that, over seas-ers?! International! You know what, blogging is making me feel better already! I think I'm ready for the air! Still, it feels a little bright in here.

Storm Trackers!

Storm Trackers! (This is what I'm affectionately calling you from this point forward...or until you earn another great nickname). You'll be pleased to know that this band of mine is primed and ready to take our show on the road! I'm gonna try and grab a few of them to chat with you Friday on the web cast. We played our second show of all the new songs last week for my label. We had a margarita/taco hang in the courtyard of the offices and played live for all the crazy folks who have decided I'm still worth working with. I think they enjoyed themselves!

So we're dry cleaning, ironing, washing, packing, shaving and preparing for you now; our favorite critics. It’s a good thing we’ve got this week to relax too cause I was in New Orleans the weekend before Easter for The Ezra Open. Me + New Orleans = :P. My good friends in Better Then Ezra throw a killer charity bowling tourney and concert that I just couldn't miss this year.

Songwriting, Ping Pong, & EP News

in

Hello! Writing with lady country singers, ping ponging with pop stars, and photos of me: that's what I'm writing about in this blog. I just want to give you an out before I dive in. We all good? Here I go!

Ashley Monroe came back to town for the week. I thought there was a good chance she was done with me after putting up with me the last time. But lo and behold, she was up for more hanging and we ended up writing 4 new songs! I tell ya, it just kind of gets going when we're playing those six strings! We booked studio time on Mon and recorded 3 of the new ones and one of the songs we wrote during the last session with Michelle Branch. We did a guy and girl demo of each song. Really excited about the way our writing is going. Oh! And the craziest thing was that just a week or so before she came to town this time I started getting into this singer songwriter, Trent Dabbs.

I was tweeting about him and talking about his music. Listening to his songs a bunch.
